TRACING HER ANCESTOR’S ROUTE TO MAY’S LICK, KY
44 days, 1000 miles by CANOE AND BICYCLE!
By Peggy Parker

In May of 1988, Peggy Parker set out on an adventure to follow the route her ancestors took
from Scotch Plains, NJ to settle in May’s Lick, KY. She used the 1788 journal of her ancestor Mary Shotwell as a guide for her trip. The Shotwell family, direct ancestors of the Parkers, journeyed from New Jersey to May’s Lick in 1788 by horse drawn wagon and flatboat.
